Day 12 – Istanbul – Gallipoli

Thursday 27th September

After a quick breakfast at the hostel it was time to head out and back on the bus once more. With yesterday being the first we had not boarded the bus at all, some, who I believe may be suffering from Stockholm Syndrome, actually professed to have missed it!

Today, thankfully, was not destined to be a heavy driving day and was to be spent in Gallipoli National Park. This involved a tour around the sites of epic battles, learning about Anzac Cove and taking in some history.

Once we had toured the memorials and seen the trenches we headed to our campsite for the night and for the first time this trip were pitched, unpacked and had a camp cooked dinner on our laps before sunset. The other exciting element of this campsite was the sea! After roasting on the bus it was lovely to hit the sea, swim, splash and play and the majority managed to fit in a trip to the campsite beach.

Tonight was the largest group drinks to date with nearly all making it along for beers, singsongs, birthday cake and the usual silly games. After this it was definitely time for bed. As you may have guessed it was not quite this civilised but you will have to wait for the eventual premier of gossip corner!
